Jason Wright Set for New Chapter as Commanders' Senior Adviser, Eyes New Stadium Deal

Jason Wright, a transformative figure within the Washington Commanders organization, is poised to transition to a new role following the 2024 NFL season. Having helmed the franchise through a period of significant upheaval and rebranding, Wright will take on responsibilities as a senior adviser, with a primary focus on finalizing the Commanders' new stadium deal.

"Given all those accomplishments, that's why I am proud to announce I will remain with the team throughout the 2024-2025 season, with the same responsibilities," Wright stated. "In particular, I look forward to helping the organization complete its new stadium deal."

Wright's tenure with the Commanders began in 2020 when the team was still known as the Washington Football Team. Under his leadership, the franchise underwent a comprehensive rebrand, emerging as the Washington Commanders in 2022. This rebrand marked a new era for the team, bringing a refreshed identity and a renewed sense of purpose.

Transformative Leadership

Jason Wright's leadership extended beyond just the team's name change. He played an instrumental role in the organization's turnover under new ownership. During his tenure, the Commanders saw a change from Dan Snyder to Josh Harris, a transition that promised new beginnings for the franchise.

"I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished over the past four years," Wright said. "Together with an amazing team of professionals, we have taken this franchise through a period of immense challenge and uncertainty and have transformed it. We've set the table for an incredibly bright future under Josh's leadership."

A Legacy of Inclusion and Connection

Wright's appointment as the first Black president of an NFL team and one of only four former players to assume such a position underscored his unique place in NFL history. His leadership ushered in a series of positive changes for the franchise, including the welcoming back of record numbers of fans, significant improvements in the fan experience, and enhanced corporate partnerships.

"Over just the past year, we've welcomed record numbers of fans back into our building, made meaningful improvements to the fan experience, re-engaged with corporate partners, and reconnected with the community. Most importantly, we re-established a culture of respect in this organization," Wright noted.

Future Endeavors

As Wright prepares to transition to his new role, the sports community is abuzz with news of him being a finalist for the position of president with the Green Bay Packers. This potential move speaks volumes about his reputation and the high regard in which he is held within the NFL.

"This feels like the right moment for me to explore my next leadership opportunity," Wright shared. "I'm extremely grateful to my Commanders colleagues, our fans, and this community for all that we have accomplished these past four years, and am looking forward to the start of a very successful season for the Burgundy and Gold."

Wright's upcoming transition marks the end of a significant chapter for the Washington Commanders but also signals a new beginning for both him and the franchise. Fans and the broader NFL community alike will be watching closely as he embarks on his next journey, bringing his experience, leadership, and vision to whichever organization is fortunate enough to have him.
